Not Passing The Public Option Is Not The End Of Democrats

The MSM is playing this up big time, but it's basically more hyped up nonsense.

Is the failure to pass a PO a huge disappointement? Yes.

Will there be mass numbers of House Democrats losing their seat for it? No. And there are several reasons.

First off, the Congressmen of the House did pass a public option. Only a small number of Democrats voted against it, and yes, they are at risk of losing their seats for it. But are you really going to vote against your House Rep because the Senate didn't have the votes? Right, I thought so.

Secondly, this election isn't going to be a referrendum on Health Care Reform. It's going to be a referrendum on the economy. If the economy does not markedly improve and if unemployment remains high, then that is a more likely reason that Democrats will lose seats. This is completely what Bunnings filibuster of the jobs bill was all about. Delaying the jobs bill even a week or two could have a significant impact on the election.

Thirdly, only twice in the history of American politics did a new President's party not lose seats to the other party. Democrats are going to lose seats. Expect it. But it will have very little to do with not passing a Public Option.
