1. Heh. Well if Sanders pushes this, they are gonna HAVE to put their
votes where their mouth is. If they pass this the WH is gonna be seriously torqued. Who would think the Senate might come through? And the word is "might". It is hard for them with no support from the WH, and the likelihood, they really don't want this. Very interesting.Hpefully, everyone now has to put their cards face up on the table!

2. Wouldn't that be awesome??? I think at the very least there
must be some understanding that if they don't pass the public option the anti-incumbent sentiment is going to burn them bad . . .

7. Those 51 votes are not there.
Signing letters and pledging to vote yes mean nothing. The vote first has to happen. That means that Sanders' amendment would need to given a vote. That might not happen. If a vote is taken, don't count on all 51 of those Senators to vote yes. Some will conveniently miss the vote. Others will abstain. Unless the leadership is twisting their arms, they'll find a way to vote against it.

It's easy to say you'll do something when you have the cover of believing you're not going to be asked to ever do it ("If I win the lottery, I'll share it with you.") Once push comes to shove, those 51 votes will start evaporating.

9. There are not 51 who signed the letter
The two lists with 51 are an OLD Dean list, that includes Senators Kirk and Snowe. It also includes Lincoln and Rockefeller, who is against doing it through reconcilliation. The other list was Hamsher's which included many people who were not firm "yes" votes.
