If the republicans were secretly for this legislation, believe me they'd have some of their caucus voting for it. And no, the insurance companies don't like it either. Why? because despite the mandates it significantly lowers their profit margin and it increases oversight. You're against the legislation? Fine, but don't delude yourself that the repubs and insurance companies secretly want it. they do not.

Health Care Companies have spent 300 million dollars to stop the bill because they know we progressives would be against it if we knew that they really love it.

Republican's, knowing progressives are this elemental force that will sweep them away if we get together, say they oppose the bill to keep progressives off guard.

It is reverse psychology.

it is just a foot in the door. Our health care in this country is so messed up, it will take decades to get it up to some standard that will hopefully benefit us all. We have to start somewhere and the health insurance companies don't want that starting point in any way, shape, or form. And the repubs are just being themselves---greedy, selfish, and mean spirited.

It's like the republicans in congress are all of a sudden so worried about if the bill passes it will mean doom for the democrats in November. Now since when did republicans care if he democrats lose come November? If they knew that passing this bill would mean the democrats lose big time, they would be voting for it themselves!

I agree this is only a start, but there is no way on earth we will get a real UHC system passed all at once, it just won't happen. It has to be done step by step, and the only real problem I see is that if the democrats can't pass this, then they will be in trouble come November, and if the republicans get power again, we will never get a starting point, at least not for many more years!

There were +5 recs when I voted, and when the numbers came up after I recced it, there was still +5. After I posted to another post, it had gone down to +4. This is just crazy.

We are close, and they know it. The republicans in congress are getting paid big money to kill this bill, along with some democrats who also are in the pockets of the health insurance companies. If they don't get the job done, well the insurance companies might not be dishing out all that money to get them back in office!

If it was up to me, we would have term limits to prevent the "good old boy" system from going on and on and on for decades. The longer some of these jerks are in office, both parties I might add, the greedier they get, and the more money the take from varies corporations that need to buy their votes. The problem is to many people back home keep voting for the same jerks, and there is never anyone to challenge them in a primary because of all the big money they get from those who have bought and paid for them! We need to get the real campaign finance reform, but the same people that have to pass such things are the same people who are talking the money, so we the people are in a no win situation!

Their profit margin is 'only', what, 20-25%? Medicare's overhead is like 1.3%, right? Yeah the insurance companies are really getting squeezed, LOL. Plus, whenever they decide they need to make more, the costs for procedures will go up. This bill is sloppy blowjob for the insurance companies.
