Antiwar Activists Plan Nationwide Protests to Mark Seventh Anniversary of Iraq Invasion
Edited on Sun Mar-14-10 09:29 AM by Echo In Light
Antiwar activists are gearing up to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq with a weeklong series of events to protest the ongoing occupation of the country. The US invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003. Then-President George W. Bush and top administration officials told the American people Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat to the US, had concealed weapons of mass destruction and helped plan the 9/11 attacks. But that was a lie. Former Bush administration officials have said publicly that the Iraq war was planned weeks after the Bush was sworn into office and that intelligence reports that claimed Iraq was a threat that intelligence reports that claimed Iraq was a threat were cooked up by analysts under pressure by Vice President Dick Cheney and his senior staffers. And government reports have been released since the invasion documenting the nearly 1,000 lies the Bush administration used to sell the war to the American public.

4. Not going to be there....
Marched, wrote letters, played the Veteran card... the whole bit.

In our area, anti-war demonstrations are attended by Q-tips... white hairs only.
Forgive me for being a curmudgeon, but I don't see younger people involved at all. Maybe they're just too worried about the economy and jobs, but still....

Half of our antiwar group "support our President" (they mean Obama) in the continuing war in Vietghanistan.

I'm not just discouraged, I'm depressed.

5. "Young wolves, show us your teeth." John Steinbeck
Said, to a group of young Soviet writers during the the Brezhnev reign. It certainly is apropos to today's apathy and the "anti-war" groups supporting Obama's war.

8. Sorry Big Mack
Do you have any big colleges nearby? They often have groups, at least they do here in Boston.

7. I'm very sad that I can't be there this year
It's just not financially viable at this time. I am hoping there will be another big one in the fall.
