It is good that the Democratic Party tackles such issues as healthcare reform and financial reform. It is not good that they would only wallpaper the problem rather than fix it. They have the power to fix both problems.
However, they don't seem to have the political fortitude. Many of them have become indentured servants of the big corporations. Which makes it difficult for the Party to pass anything substantial. In this respect, they are not a whole lot different from the Republican Party.
They can be defined by their deeds, not their words. Where is the Party of the People? Is there such a thing? The actions of this President and this Party tell us that they are on life support. They are in pretend mode. They are pretending to be for the people. But the truth of the matter is that they are shackled to Big Business and Big Money, even as the people drown in the belief that somebody on a white horse will ride in to save them. There are no white horses?
The Republicans don't even pretend anymore. The unemployed? Screw them! The lazy bastards! The Republicans hide behind their slogans and ideology of free markets, competition, and small government. They were exposed a long time ago. They are incapable of governing but are capable at propaganda and using the media to their advantage.
So, who's left to speak for the people? Is that a politically incorrect question? Isn't it time to ask what the Democratic Party stands for and who do they represent? They cannot pretend to represent the people at the same time they serve Big Business. That is the reality that the Party must come to terms with.
