Yeah, I remember laying in the mud cursing at the zoomies as they flew overhead, on their way back to hot food, a real bed, and an honest-to-God shower; but I can't help it. I eat this shit up.

1. That was so amazing that it almost didn't look real except...

I have seen them from the ground. Just incredible!

2. I saw them around 1970 as they flew over my house...

It was in Long Beach, CA, and they were in an air show nearby (McDonald-Douglas plant?--I was living only a few blocks away. I don't know where they were appearing but their patterns would take them far out beyond the "paying customers" so we rubes who didn't pay to see them would see them). Anyway I saw them in the formations and was really impressed!

Of course they had older aircraft then, but I wonder now if their aircraft uses computers to help them avoid collisions. They fly so close together that I wonder if technology literally will not let a pilot steer too close and risk collision.
