Other cars have sudden acceleration issues

I know I posted about mine last year. I was driving a '92 Jaguar XJS-V12 convertible - my pride and joy - not a srcatch on it. I loved that car and really took care of it. From a standing position after releasing the brakes, the car just took off. I had no control. I was scary as hell. I damaged three other cars and totally recked my car. My mechanic could not find the cause of the sudden acceleration. I am still mourning it's loss. It was a beautiful car.

Anyone here experienced something like this other than with a Toyota?

1. It happened a few months ago to my Dad's Honda Accord.

He had to stop himself by driving into a wall. Totalled the car but he limped away in one piece.

Several things are clear at this point:
- There are more than one make/model with these issues
- It has been impossible for even independent groups like the NHTSA to replicate
- There has clearly been some charlatans in mix, like Kane/Gilbert.

The intelligent solution is for unbiased investigations to continue and converge on the root cause(s). Based on what has been seen so far, most pros would expect expect a combination of multiple factors and that is unlikely to be a single smoking subroutine. Given the broad number of unrelated products it is happening on, human factors will most likely play a part as well.

Lets stop with the tabloid crap and let the pros work it. Until then, learn appropriate emergency procedures for whatever you drive (as in cars/trucks) or ride (as in motorcycle, not buses).

5. Many cars have implemented a safety that allows the brake to override

the throttle.

With drive by wire, there needs to be a safety circuit and Toyota has not put one in their cars.

6. I had one of the first

An Audi 5000 back in the eighties. I never experienced the unintended acceleration, but that was one of the first, if not the first to get its reputation ruined by such reports.

Sometomes when I put my foot on the break of my Suzuki XL-7 I also depress the gas pedal, because they are too close together. After a split second I realize what is going and pick my foot up, then all is fine.

7. My Dentist told me about his Audi this morning, he said

he lost his shirt on resale value on his Audi back then. I never knew about the Audi ever having such a problem until this morning. When I bought my Toyota I paid a premium for it because of their excellent reputation. Now I am going to take another hit on resale value.
