(SC State) House OKs using possible federal funds for services

Dozens of advocates for the mentally disabled pierced the legislative decorum with cheers Monday as state lawmakers tagged a 6-month infusion of federal cash — if it arrives — for the state’s health care agencies and one House member promised more fixes to avoid catastrophic budget cuts.State Rep. Rex Rice told The Greenville News he plans to offer an amendment that would call for any reserve funds or capital money to be used for services, many of which still could be at risk of the budget axe.

Waiting for House members in the Statehouse lobby Monday were dozens of people who are disabled or who care for them.
