These people who lord over us, our 'government' don't give a flying fuck about you, or me, or anyone outside of their bubble of wealth and influence. Why should they? Nancy Pelosi doesn't have desperate men and women who can't feed their children pointing guns at her head, and neither does Harry Reid. Shit, they have private security, as well they should. If not, we hoi polloi might just do something about their bullshit. The congressional Republicans? Lord, don't get me started. They don't serve anything but Mammon and Satan himself. Remember, as Elie Wiesel said, "The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference."
Indeed.
Nor do Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, or any of their ilk give a fuck about anyobdy but themselves, as we know all too well. Tempting though it is to advocate the death of those shitheads, they are not only entitled to the freedom of speech but they also serve as wonderful object examples for the uninitiated as to the nefarious designs of the overclass. That aside, what I am most certainly advocating is finding common ground with the tea-partying folks on the Right who feel that they have been personally fucked by Uncle Sam (which they oftentimes have... other times, not even a lick). They are pissed off in a way that we, as Democrats, are not, because our interests are ostensibly being represented. They have a deep-seated hatred for the government, but unfortunately they have been mislead by charlatans into thinking that up is down, black is white, and that the guys who actually fucked them over are the only ones who can save them.
I and the tea party crowd share some common grievances against our current government, and a few wildly divergent ones as well. But the essential fact of the matter is that the tea party crowd aren't necessarily bad people, they're just acutely uninformed. They more than any segment of the population are committed to doing something, anything, no matter how ill-advised about the shitstorm that is DC. And that is a potentially very valuable thing.
We, you and I, DUers, are in a fight for our very survival, not as a political entity, but rather as an economic confluence, the vaunted middle class that until recently was largely insulated from the dire economic effects of Rightist governance. The teabaggers are now facing a similar socioeconomic irrelevance, admittedly a deeply disturbing prospect, but they lack the knowledge of who their real enemy is. Most of my family members are Conservatives, not necessarily Republicans, but Rightists, to keep with the terminology that I have established. These people, though misguided, are far from stupid. If you make it a personal mission to educate your Rightist friends, neighbors, etc. as to who the real threat to their security and prosperity is, you'd likely be shocked at the unexpected allies that you would find. They will be recalcitrant to the point of obstinacy at first, but persistance produces unparalleled results, especially if your close-minded friend or acquaintance is someone with whom you will be interacting on a regular basis.
Some of these people can be our greatest allies if we take the time to show them the "Man Behind the Curtain", as it were. Keep that in mind over the coming months and years.
And always remember, as President Kennedy once said, "When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable."
