Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans Lead Democrats by 10 in Generic Ballot, Highest Lead Yet

Republican candidates have now stretched their lead over Democrats to 10 points in the Generic Congressional Ballot, their biggest lead ever in nearly three years of weekly tracking. The GOP has been leading on the ballot for months.

The new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 35% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. Voter support for GOP congressional candidates increased slightly from last week, while support for Democrats fell two points.

Republicans started 2010 ahead by nine points, while support for Democrats fell to its lowest level over the same period. Towards the end of 2009, GOP candidates enjoyed a more modest lead over Democrats, with the gap between the two down to four points in early December. Since the beginning of the year, however, the Republican lead hasn’t dipped below seven points.

But in a three-way generic ballot involving a Tea Party candidate, the Democratic candidate earns 34% support, while the Republican gets 27% of the vote with the Tea Party hopeful in third at 21%. Still, just 16% nationwide say they are part of the tea party movement....

For those that keep saying that healthcare is going to be "fixed later" remember this. The Dems are going to lose big to the Pubs in the fall. The mandates will remain, but none of the "fixes" will ever be enacted. Insurance companies will grow exponentially in power due to "mandated" profits and their lobbying power will be even more extreme.

8. Let's look at Rasmussen for a moment

Tony Snow, White House press secretary for President George W. Bush, attacked Rasmussen’s polling on the War in Iraq.More recently, Democrats have attacked his polling on President Obama’s Job Approval Rating and other topics.
Rasmussen’s reported Job Approval Ratings for President Obama are typically several points lower than Gallup’s. He says this is because Gallup polls all adults and he polls likely voters.
Both Republican and Democratic candidates for office cite Rasmussen data in their correspondence. Susan Estrich, who managed the Presidential campaign for Michael Dukakis said, “If you really want to know what people in America think, you can't find a smarter guy to ask than Scott Rasmussen."
Rasmussen's polls are notable for their use of automated public opinion polling, involving pre-recorded telephone inquiries. These types of polls have been shown to produce accurate results at low cost. But some have doubted their reliability. In 2004 Slate magazine said they “publicly doubted and privately derided Rasmussen” polls because of the methodology. However, after the election, they concluded that Rasmussen’s polls were the most accurate.
At the end of the 2008 Presidential Election, there were eight national tracking polls and many other polls conducted on a regular basis. Polling guru Nate Silver reviewed the tracking polls and said that while none were perfect, "Rasmussen -- with its large sample size and high pollster rating -- would probably be the one I'd want with me on a desert island." After the election, Rasmussen's poll was rated as the most accurate, when compared to various other final pre-election polls.

Congress as a whole has constant low approval ratings, yet the re-election rate is in the high 90s. The real question should be do you plan on voting for your current (insert name here) representative this fall?

Most people will say yes to that.
