Stupak Admits Senate Bill Subject To Hyde Amendment!!!
Go home, ya lousy theocrat.

http://ezkool.com/2010/03/18/bart-stupak-contradicts-himself-admits-no-federal-funds-for-abortions/

The interviewer asked, "But are they (the insurance companies) permitted to use that tax money, that tax credit for abortion services? Isn’t that banned by the Hyde Amendment?"

Stupak looks off to the side, knowing he’s put on the spot. After thinking for a split second, he says, "Yes. And that’s why, that’s why you want the Hyde Amendment in there so we cannot do that."

You’ve been caught Bart! The Hyde amendment already prohibits any Federal monies from paying for abortion services. You just admitted that the money or tax credits going to the insurance companies will not be used for abortions, because that’s “banned by the Hyde Amendment."

Done and done. This guy has no more credibility whatsoever among Democrats. Pass the damn bill!

2. He wants the Hyde Amendment to become permanent.
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 02:33 PM by bain_sidhe
That's what this is about. Currently, the Hyde Amendment must be "added in" to each year's appropriations bill, and the anti-choicers live in constant fear that some year it might not be "added in" - despite the fact that it's been added in every year for 30 years now.

**edited to add**

The Senate abortion language doesn't make it permanent. The House language did.

7. Exactly. The Stupak amendment is an advance on a woman's right to choose.
The Senate language maintains the status quo much better.

8. Why does it matter substantively? SCOTUS ruled in 1980 on the
constitutionality of Hyde. So unless and until another route is used to find it unconstitutional it is pretty much a settled issue. It is superfluous to make Hyde "permanent." For all extents and purposes, it already is...
