I don't think they'll get the votes to pass this bill

Maybe its wishful thinking on my part but I don't think they will be able to make enough deals to get this thing through. They are still plenty of votes short and Stupak has pretty much said he will not be voting for this.

The fact that millions of middle class americans will be hurt by this (see here), the fact that pre-existing conditions for adults wont be covered for another 4 years, the fact there is no medicare expension nor a public option, and various of other flaws in this bill we should probably all hope they don't have the votes. This bill needs to die, and if it ends up hurting the democratic party as a result I couldn't care any less; they proved themselves to be useless and I have no more interest in dedicating anymore of my energy for them.

I actually heard a democratic congressman this morning on MSNBC say that people will never again have to pay more than $10,000 a year for healthcare (dont remember the name, maybe someone can help me out). Gee wizz congressman, thank you so much. Because most middle class americans have $833 sitting around each month.

Some of you might be set on supporting this because you have the cheerleader mentallity, but you can not deny the hurt this bill will bring to many people. And if this bill fails I will rejoice, I think many here will join with me.

5. And that's the point that isn't made often enough or loud enough

The poor may get a little bit of crumbs, the uninsured may get outrageously expensive coverage, and all the other piddly ass bits of "benefit" to come from this -- but it does virtually nothing in the way of taking down the insurance companies who are to blame for the whole thing.

It gives the poor/uninsured/underinsured 50 cents worth of benefit, then makes them pay $1.00 for it and puts that $1 and a few more from "the government" right into the gaping maw of the insurance companies.

It boggles my mind, but there it is.

In truth, catastrophic policies have a much, much lower premium. Less than half the price of full insurance typically. Since your subsidy would cover half the price of full insurance ... your subsidy will pay in full for the catastrophic policy.

won't have access to that high risk pool for 4 years? Because that's not what I have read. The rule barring discrimination for PEC's doesn't kick in for commercial insurers for 4 years, but in the meantime the high risk pool for adults with PEC's takes effect either in 90 days or at the start of 2011, IIRC, and effective on signing, children with PEC's cannot be discriminated against.

I have that cheerleader mentality -
The Dems (my team) support this crappy bill..
The GOP (the other team) oppose this crappy bill that they would easily support if it was their bill..

The bill will most likely hurt my access to affordable medical treatment - I want single payer..
But the corporations will only allow us this crappy bill..

Oh, and there is no way that this wont pass.. we got the votes.. can't say sadly cause defeat of this crappy bill would be the end of the dems..
