Last night, March 18, in the beautiful city of Chicago, I took to the streets with Jill McLaughlin of World Can't Wait and a host of other organizations in an Anti-War Demonstration. I would say roughly 1,000 people showed up for a gathering at The Plaza with speeches from twelve freedom fighters and peace seeking individuals who give considerable time and energy to letting our government know that we do not support the violence our nation has inflicted in the world.

But I have stood up and faced down KKK cross burners on my yard.
Anita Brayant while she attempted to get up a little lynchmob in Selma in 82. D James Kennedy in Fla in the early 90s when he started on fags when I was in earshot,while working with a construction crew on their new cathedral where I was working as an electrician in front of several rough neck construction workers. Who were quite taken aback, but did not complain or make any other aggressive statements or actions.
I kicked the shit out of an electrician that turned on a 480volt panel that I was working on and had padlocked off with a color coded lock in the basement, burning off my fingernails and skin to my elbows...he lost 4 teeth and others wanted to jump in but a fellow biker and coworker stepped up and said 'try it'.
I have stood up other times too. Does that count as marching?
I have lived on the premise that if I am man enough to tell people that I am gay that they will realise that we are not monsters...some folks never change their ittybitty minds, most have sense to realise that truth. Except KKKRestians who are sure their superstition is 'truth'.

17. Too long ago.

I used to do this voraciously, and even got into organizing for awhile. But the sad fact is, I have come to the conclusion that marches don't change anything anymore. They used to. That's because they used to be more "shocking" to the public mind, and make them think about the issues. Today the public really doesn't pay much attention to them. They've lost their punch. If millions of people pouring out into the streets against the Iraq War couldn't stop it, or the madmen who started and executed it, then lesser marches surely won't do squat.

Sorry, kids. We're going to have to come up with the "next big thing" to get public attention and start changing minds again.
