GOP group's former treasurer admits 'terrible mistake'
BY JAMES BURGER, Californian staff writer
The attorney for former Republican Assembly of Kern County treasurer Paul Stine said his client is “very sorry” for his “terrible mistake.”
The Bakersfield Police Department confirmed Monday it received a complaint from the Assembly about suspicious transfers of $5,600 from the organization’s accounts by Stine.
Kyle Humphrey, Stine’s attorney, said Monday evening that his client admitted to making a mistake in the midst of a tough economy and a “change in his employment situation.”
In an e-mail Monday night, Stine said he made the deposits, and that all the money had been returned. He referred questions to Humphrey.
