1. Opinion polls mean more then elections?

Unless those polls paint a bad picture for the GOP. Then of course opinion polls are meaningless.

I often wonder what the popular opinion was in the 1950's toward civil and equal rights. Or what the popular opinion was toward freeing slaves in the 1850's. Maybe the popular opinion in both aspects were against enacting these things.
Yet doing both was the correct thing to do.
