A second Health Care Reform Act?

There were four Civil Rights Acts in twelve years. Obviously we're not done with health care reform, and despite what a lot of people have been saying, the passage of this bill today has left me feeling ready to get to work on the next piece of legislation. Anybody else feel the same way? Or will this bill deaden any political momentum for further HCR?

1. A public option works for me

and a bill making the effective date IMMEDIATELY for bans on denials of pre-existing conditions of adults.

2. I think we could do it in Obama's second term but only small changes can be made

between now and then.

To many other things to try and accomplish.

when the Democrats have really, really big majorities. Then we can get real reform that might actually allow access to health care like they have in civilized countries.

10. Yes--gains are the key.

November 2010 is an important goal, of course, but there's so much time between now and November 2012. If we work our asses off to (1) get more Dems to DC and (2) change out as many of these conservative Democrats for liberal ones as possible, then hopefully we'll manage ***at least*** a good, strong public option on Obama's desk.

Because I was.

This is the line we were handed all through the Bush years. First it was everything would get better when the Democrats controlled the House and Senate; then it was everything would get better when they controlled the House, Senate & had the White House. Well, we've got all three now - with huge marjorities in Congress and this insurance scam was still the only thing they were willing to pass.

Like I said, it's not strictly a matter of getting party majorities. We **have** to get strong candidates against conservative Democrats in primary elections, and we **have** to make sure that the Democratic leadership registers each and every moment we wince at their cowardice and greed (because they can't say we didn't tell them so).

But beyond that, I don't know what else to do. Maybe I'm embarrassing myself with this display of optimism. So it goes.

pressing matters which we must take care of but I feel it would be better keep HCR as a priority...then let it slide into a back seat...
