If the Repukes were smart, they'd completely cream us by waging an insistent but low-key campaign against mandates and benefits taxation, just like Obama did so successfully in 2008. After today's disgusting displays of out of control sociopatholgy, it's starting to look like they are incapable of that. Thank heavens for small favors--we're already getting enough crap to deal with from corporate Dems. We may not get anything really populist from Dems until we start primarying more of them (though we will continue to get small improvements here and there), but Repukes have the potential of absolutely destroying our society. And they'd do it just out of spite.

However, it will take people awhile to realize that little is going to change until 2014. If the financial regulation is as much of a sellout as HCR, we are in really serious trouble. Most of HCR actual consequences are postponed--this will NOT be the case with fake, weak financial regulation.

8. We'll see about financial reform. If a final bill gets unanimous support from the Progressive Caucus

and unanimous opposition from republicans (as was the case with this health care bill), I'll be inclined to support it. If it is something that passes with a lot of republican and blue dog support, while being rejected by the progressives in congress, then I would likely agree with you.

The best way for us to get health CARE from the government is through a British style National Health Service. If that's the health CARE you're referring to, I agree with you. Everything else is just insurance reform (who pays the private doctors and hospitals). With 178 republicans and 54 blue dogs in the House, I don't think my NHS had much of a chance - talk about socialism!
