3. god forbid people should express their constitutional rights
with these cafe constitutionalists (take what you like, don't take the parts of the constitution that offend you).

for them, those asserting their rights are asses for doing so

typical.

note also, the veiled penis canard "manly"

8. You have no 2nd amendment right against ridicule. I'm noting the 'veiled penis'
thing you mentioned, and laughing.

10. nor do you
thus i ridicule those who make silly arguments.

nobody claimed anybody has a right to be free from ridicule.

in fact, as a proponent of the USA's (versus france, the UK's etc.) model of true free speech, i support the expansive free speech notions that NO sacred cow is above ridicule. which is why i do not support the hate speech laws of the UK, canada, france, etc.

glad to see you also believe in our expansive view of civil rights and free speech

12. But that is exactly what you want--not merely to carry to your gun
freely, but to do so without being made fun of....

Nothing in the cartoon, and no poster has in anyway suggesting infringing your 2nd amendment rights.

But you want more.

You want to carry your gun without people sniggering at you. Which apparently bothers you a great deal.

Alas, I suspect that white, middle-aged guys fingering their holsters as they order their half-caf skinny mocha lattes will always be objects of scorn and derision....though certainly not in their Walter Mitty minds.

14. Thank you---and it's like the Teabaggers, isn't it?
I mean, the amount of indignant bloviating over the Left's use of the word 'teabag' indicates that these guys are really, really, mad about being laughed at. So of course, they think there's a giant conspiracy to supress their civil rights....

When there isn't.

15. Yep. To them, the only ones who have "no right not to be offended" is the Left.
Make fun of THEM, and they throw a hissy fit like the crybabies they are.

What makes it even more fun is the predictability of their reactions.

23. anybody has the right to throw a hissyfit
as ideologues on both sides of the spectrum invariably do

NOBODY has the right to be free from criticism or ridicule, based on ideology, creed, race, religion, etc.

ANYBODY has the right to whine (hint: whining is protected by the 1st amendment)...

as you would do

regardless, that's why i love our system. in our system the govt. doesn't step in (like in france, the UK, etc.) and protect us from unsavory speech.

in a TRUE marketplace of ideas, even the most odious must be constitutionally protected

as it is in ours

9. just as the statement "just because you're paranoid does not mean they aren't out to get you"
is true, it is also true that just because the penis thing is a "canard" not does not mean it's not true!

but they are means to exercise rights under the 1st amendment

guns are means to express rights under the 2nd

27. And advocates of the use of those items don't generally advocate using them irresponsibly
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 03:28 PM by baldguy
In a manner which intentionally causes the deaths of human beings. The advocates of guns promote the rights of guns, not people.

28. advocates for the RKBA don't generally advocate using
guns irresponsibly in a manner which intentionally causes the UNLAWFUL death of human beings.

the advocates of RKBA promote the rights of people NOT guns, just as choice advocates promote the rights of women NOT abortions.

pro-choice advocates promote the right of women to have a CHOICE

RKBA advocates promote the right of people to have a CHOICE. a choice to carry or not carry.

At least the guns are happy.

30. the advocates for RKBA
are no more responsible for needless killings than the advocates for choice are responsible for needless pregnancies

those are wholly unrelated things.

i do my part to prevent needless killings, and bring criminals to justice.

i also do my part to support the rights of others to RKBA. my rights are protected due to my job. theirs are protected by the constitution.

considering that every time right to carry is expanded, homicide has gone DOWN, and that we have all time high in gun ownership and both accidental and intentional unlawful homicides are LOWER than they were in the past, i have seen no evidence that advocating RKBA or increasing rights vis a vis RKBA promotes "needless killings"

if you have evidence that runs contrary, be sure to let me know

we have to like it too, or you'll be offended.

31. you don't have to like it
just like anti-choice advocates don't have to like choice, and are free to choose not to have abortions themselves.

as long as they don't encroach on other's choices, they are perfectly ok to be offended
