The TBaggers now know what it feels like.
We were vociferously and adamantly opposed to the illegal invasion of Iraq. It happened as we watch in horror.

BIG DIFFERENCE:

This victory HELPS people.

The Invasion KILLED people.

Big, big difference.

But, they know what it feels like.

1. Huge difference
This was for the betterment of the American People, the invasion was NOT for the betterment of any people.

2. You know I had a DUer try to compare HCR to the Iraq War
To me, HCR is not a perfect bill but I think it's a positive start to many new changes that we'll see over the coming years with Health Care Reform. And the DUer tried to compare HCR to Iraq war which totally blew my mind away.

I understand that there are DUers who want to hold their breaths waiting for the perfect congress to pass the perfect health care reform. I'd rather get help out there today that can start making a difference and then work on improving it over the years.

You people are unbelievable.

I just said: Now you know what it feels like. And obviously you do.

Got it?

12. Clearly, That Is All This Bill Is About To You.
You didn't post, "Yeah, now people have health care!" You posted, "Suck it, Republicans!"

You obviously don't give two shits about what this bill does, or understand a 10th of its ramifications. All you care about is that Republicans didn't want it.

How sad.

7. What would you have?
I can only assume you dont think it went far enough. Well it was about all we could get and I for one am thankful we got it. Also, without some victory we truly would lose big time at the polls, and this is at least the biggest thing to happen since Obama was elected. If you would rather we start over and play paddy cake with the republicans or try for something really big that will never make it and have another generation go under the current system, well then I cant really say what your thinking.

8. Red David Frum (if you can)
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 09:34 AM by rusty charly
He chastises the Republicans for trying for "all the marbles" and ended up getting none (which isn't exactly true, but...).

Is that what we should've done? All the marbles and ending up with none?

No.

Here it is:

If David Frum is good reading to you then you are probably more conservative than me becuase I cant stand that guy, even on the rare occassion that I agree with him.

The Democrats will be in the majority in both the House and the Senate come January when the next Congress convenes. I will back that assertion up with a $10 donation to DU if I'm wrong.

21. No, you are mistaken
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 11:59 AM by Bert
If the democrats want any chance at all they have to fight and stand or fall on principles. Letting this debate be dragged out for as long as it has was the worst mistake made so far. I will fight for the party who fights for me, and if the democrats want me to fight for them then I expect them to stand for me and not cringe and cower every time Fox news rigs another irrelevant poll.

If you have any better suggestions on how democrats can win I will gladly listen to them, I think however you may be hoping they lose. I will simply assume you think they should have gone for the public option or single payer, which I will admit would have been better. However in the context of the last 14 months, and especially after losing Ted Kennedy's seat I think this is the best that we could have reasonably hoped for. Please believe me that in my opinion this is both the best policy wise we could get and the best campaign wise also. We could have lost that vote last night, and it would have been a disaster, but we decided to put it all on the line. And we won. Savor the victory, the largest in my almost 4 decades of life for the progressive cause.

Also, I expect some democrats to lose some seats, irregardless of the health care fight, it always happens to the out of power party after they a lose an election that they come back some in the midterms. To energize the party we need a victory and we need to show that the apocalypse is not on us like Fox news would have us believe. Only the independents and moderate democrats are in play, and even if we do lose a majority in house and senate so what? At least we have done something that hasen't been done for 100 years of wanting.

And they cannot undo anything because we have the veto.

So finally, get on the democratic bus or the mad progressive bus I guess, but please dont tell me that this isnt a historic victory and possibly the defining event of Obama's presidency and the first piece of progressive legislation of this scope for 30 years or more and the most clear indicator yet of which party represents the future and which represents the past.

The irony of this statement being used in a post celebrating what was done to the American people with this bill is literally staggering.

This country is fucking doomed. The politicians built the basket, but you people are the ones pushing it over the edge of the cliff to hell.

You cannot come up with any alternatives can you? Are you going to cry because you didn't get everything you want? Join the green party and stop wasting my time because I and the rest of the democratic party has work to do.

25. You And the Rest of the Democratic Party Has Work To Do?
Just how much sleeve-rolling is involved in handing the country over to corporations? Obama certainly didn't seem to work up much of a sweat, despite taking his jacket off everywhere he went. Caving to Republicans is going WITH the force of gravity, so it's easier than standing your ground.

This country won't long survive any more of the "work" that you people have planned.

(Is it true that Peyton has a clause in his contract insisting that someone who can perform the Heimlich maneuver is in the huddle for every playoff game?)

22. Leave the Colts alone
Hey, this makes up for the Colts losing, and Indiana voted for Obama last time, the first time we have voted for a democrat in the white house in more than 50 years. Also, the COLTS will win the next super bowl, the democrats will retain both majorities and Obama will go down next to FDR. Also, the Pacers will continue to suck enough to never make the playoffs but play good in the last two weeks and get a top 8 draft pick at the best.

14. It's hard not to notice that difference.
We fight to help people, they fight to kill people. I was deeply, severely depressed after the IRW was passed, and that was because i knew thousands of people were going to die. They are deeply severely depressed because thousands of poor people will have access to health care now and might live. And they call themselves the "party of life."

How happy I am to be on the right side of history. :)

Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 04:24 PM by librechik
that would require empathy, which they don't have. And sympathy, which they are convinced is a mortal sin. They will never "get it." Period. No matter what it is, it is always somebody else's fault and the teabag is always the victim.
