15. 30 million who have gone from no insurance to insurance that they can't afford to use
Basically they've been spared the indignity of running up an unpayable debt when they are brought to the emergency room to die.

19. re: "30 million who have... insurance that they can't afford to use"

I abbreviated your reply (to fit the subject-line limits)... here's what I intended to quote:

30 million who have gone from no insurance to insurance that they can't afford to use

Truer words... when that reality hits them in the pocketbook, they'll realize they've been duped. SINGLE-PAYER (or a no-restrictions PUBLIC OPTION) was the only real solutions to the problems which led us to begin talking "health care reform". Unfortunately, we got way-laid by the FOR-PROFITS influence in CONGRESS.

We've been promised a variety of "fixes" ... should we hold our collective breath (hint: I don't intend to)?! :yoiks:

18. The market likes certainty. Getting the bill passed means more certainty.
I wouldn't read much more into it than that.

It's spring, and the market resurgence has been steady since the DOW dipped momentarily below 10K.

Because if you actually think that Wall Street or the Stock Market has ANYTHING, fundamentally, to do with the Health of the REAL Economy, then you are truly as lost as the guy in the film.

You can't even begin to understand the problems if you already think they are the solutions.

Keep Sleeping.

And enjoy your "Freedom."

The last resort of the Intellectually Vacant.

But then again, anyone who relies on views and opinions as ignorant and simplistic as yours is lucky to be able to win an argument with a Lego, much less someone who is informed.

You poor thing, you probably think all those "Record Profits" for the Big Banks are actually real, and not even remotely the result of being able to hide most of their losses off the balance sheet via exploitation of those magical "changes" in the Mark-To-Market Rules. (Read: "Mark To Make Believe")

You haven't got a clue that this artificially inflated Stock bubble has NOTHING to do with the health of the real economy, because you think the Stock Market IS the economy.

But then again, you probably also think a Pig Pen is something to write with.

You run along and play now, but first be sure and get one more low-brow insult, so you can run to the rest of your Ape-Like comrades and drool and brag with slack-jawed pride about winning your little "Internet Confrontation." be sure to use plenty of silly net abbreviated, broken words to make yourself look edgy and cool.

Then afterward you can strap on your CNBC Propaganda Feedbag and go graze with the rest of the herd, and act like you know something.

At least that is what you are now asserting.

Well, if you don't truly hold those beliefs, and are not engaging in backtracking, then my assessment of you, at LEAST in that regard, is rather unfounded wouldn't you say?

And it amounts to a misunderstanding, and you would have a full retraction of my comments. :)

HOWEVER, you should have the understanding that although it was sarcasm on your part, a DANGEROUS percentage of the population believes just that. it is one of the many reasons that unlike the former Soviet union and their "Iron Curtain", we in America now live behind the "Ignorant Curtain".

As for me being a crafty fucker, might I delicately suggest that you have no idea. :)

Now if you are fibbing here d_b, that wouldn't be very nice. I hope you're being sincere about this and we haven't done this dance for nothing,

But seriously d_b, while we are still at this subject, what is your take on the current Bubblemania that is going on?

And since this is the third one in the past 11 years, why do you think the Public does not seem to have the good sense to catch on to what is going on?

What should scare the shit out of them is the fact that because our Economic system has been so distorted, dislocated and completely corrupted by Bubble Economics that we have reached a point where the arbiters of the system HAVE NO CHOICE but to continue said policies and practices, because it is the only way the United States can continue to function economically.

no take on it really; nothing apart from the standards lines/prevailing wisdom you read on here anyway. They'll find another sham market to get rich off, fuck it up, and leave us holding the bag (and then blame us for it, too).

As to why people don't catch on...apathy, equanimity? I don' even pretend to understand that. Why the shit do people watch American Idol and buy Nickelback records? That's far more interesting to me.

49. That's pretty much how it works.
Problem, Reaction, Solution.

Create the Crisis

Hype the Problem

Create the "Solution".

Which really is a "Solution" for THEIR Bottom line, so they can keep robbing from OURS.

As for the last part of your comment, what's even more interesting is figuring which has a more negative effect on the brain, American Idol or Nickelback records?

While both being destructive enough on their own, the combination of both in high doses carries the risk of turning unsuspecting people into vegetables. :)

11. The Market According to Rush...
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 05:17 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Just before the 2008 election when the market was tanking Rush Limbaugh said 'This is Obama's market' and when on to say as soon as Obama mentioned Tim Geithner to be in his cabinet that the market belonged to Obama, meaning the downward slide was all due to Obama. Rush's listeners believed everything he said, defying common sense and even reality. But when the market started to go up soon after Obama was sworn in and has continued to rise over the past year to over FIFTY PERCENT of what it was when he took over the presidency, Rush Limbaugh has never mentioned the market again.

It's no surprise Limbaugh hasn't mentioned the market increase during Obama's presidency. He doesn't ever tell his audience the truth. But you would think that even the most dimwitted Limbaugh listener would figure out they are being lied to or deceived by their radio god. But that would require thought, and it would require fact checking what they hear, which they never seem to do. Right wing radio hatemongers rely on the laziness and stupidity of their audiences to never question what they hear. If they did there wouldn't be any listeners left.

Edited on Wed Mar-24-10 05:18 AM by TheWatcher
And then, to your horror, people like him still won't get it.

In many ways, the country is doomed Economically because it's Citizens cannot handle, grasp, or accept the hard truth or facts of what is killing it.

Bubble Economics, and Ponzi Economic Models based on Fiscal Insanity is what the herd has become conditioned to accept, and the only way the country can continue to function Economically, now that everything has gotten so completely dislocated and distorted.

There is no CHOICE but to continue to create new Bubbles.

Reflate or Die.

As long as the illusion of normalcy and "Getting Back To the Way Things Were" is kept alive artificially by TPTB, don't fool yourself for ONE MINUTE that the Majority won't just go along with it and play Pretend.

You're going to be amazed at the lengths the people of this country will go to ignore reality and fight tooth and nail to live in a false one, before this is over.

You haven't begun to be astonished.

And neither have I.
