Newt On Health Care Reform: Vote Was "Worthy of Hugo Chavez"

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich issued a statement saying the health care reform bill is more akin to what is done under Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez than how things should be conducted in the USA.

The Obama-Pelosi-Reid machine combined the radicalism of Alinsky, the corruption of Springfield and the machine power politics of Chicago. Sunday was a pressured, bought, intimidated vote worthy of Hugo Chavez but unworthy of the United States of America.

Newt repeats the conservative talking point that Congressman Alcee Hastings of Florida said, “We make up the rules as we go along,” which is from a heavily edited clip that originated in the office of Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner. But the full quote was of much broader context, and was never part of the clip that went viral:

“I wish that I had been there when Thomas Edison made the remark that I think applies here. ‘They ain’t no rules around here, we’re trying to accomplish something.’ And therefore, when the deal goes down, all of this talk about rules – we make ‘em up as we go along. And I’m here now 18 years and a significant time under the leadership of the Republicans, who at no time, even when they claim all they did for the prescription drugs, they left that big old donut hole in. And they never talk about that they did not pay for it, while they are here now claiming that they are fiscal conservatives.

So once again we are busy comparing a democratically elected body doing what they were elected to do with someone conservatives view as an evil dictator.

public sentiment was already there, but * was still getting them to go along into his second term after the wars and lies had made the made the 9-11 chant far less effective. A DUer reminded me just yesterday of when Durbin back in 2007 inferred a Bush/Hitler comparison. He got a ration of shite!

Just yesterday, Nunes was ranting on and on in an interview about the 'totalitarianism' of the Obama administration and my own Congress critter, Dean Heller, rants locally about 'socialism' frequently.

These GOPers are making these comparisons every day ~ it's becoming common place with them. Listening to the Repugs drone on and on yesterday about the HCR/HIR ~ many of them made reference to socialism, government take over, etc. How many GOPers routinely attend Tea 'Bagger events with pics of Obama dressed as Hitler? I'll name a few: Pence, Bachmann, Gohmert, Ron Paul, Tancredo.

That would have been the end of it, had Republican lawmakers not stirred things up. First Reps. Buck McKeon (Calif.), Rob Bishop (Utah) and Mike Turner (Ohio) came out waving signs saying "KILL THE BILL." The crowd went wild. Reps. Mary Fallin (Okla.), Geoff Davis (Ky.) and Bill Posey (Fla.) held the "Don't Tread on Me" flag, and Rep. Pete Sessions (Tex.), head of the House Republicans' 2010 campaign committee, came out with half a dozen colleagues and more kill-the-bill signs. Rep. Jeff Miller (Fla.) dangled an American flag from the balcony.

"That's kind of fun," Fallin said cheerfully after a turn at riling the crowd with signs saying "No" in red letters.

I won't even go into the talking heads and rw hate radio hosts. Way back when, Fox Noos made such a fuss when a contestant for a Moveon event made a poster or video or something with Bush dressed as Hitler - remember the outrage? Now, Beck routinely makes that comparison of Obama ~ and it's not even remotely as fitting.

Can you imagine the outrage had the Dems and left leaning talking heads on teevee had done the same? Dems would be toast. There would be outrage. It would've been the main topic of discussion for weeks.
