SARPY COUNTY, Neb. --
A man who lost his job as an Omaha police officer after being convicted of online enticement has been sentenced to one year in prison for the crime.
David Kass must also register as a sex offender.
Kass cried in court as he took off his tie and his suit jacket and turned to follow the deputies who would lead him to jail.
Judge Max Kelch denied Kass probation, saying the former officer had a heightened responsibility to protect children. Kelch also said it was difficult to find remorse in Kass after his not-guilty plea.
Investigators said Kass thought he was chatting with a 14-year-old girl last summer when he struck up an online chat and steered the conversation into sexually-explicit topics.
Kass was actually chatting with a La Vista detective.
Kass' attorney said Monday that his client made a mistake by thinking he was chatting in an adult chat room.
