Toyota Recalled Floor Mats in Canada in 2003
By IAN AUSTEN AND MICHELINE MAYNARD

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Tuesday that Toyota recalled 408 cars in Canada in 2003 because of concerns that their floor mats would interfere with accelerator pedals.

While it was little noticed at the time, the recall notice from Transport Canada, the government department responsible for auto safety, said that on some 2002 Celica Panasonic Edition models, “the driver’s floor mat may slide along the interior floor carpet when pressure is applied to the mat by getting in or out of the vehicle. As a result, the floor mat may come into contact and interfere with the accelerator pedal.”

Dealers fixed the problem by installing new floor mats as well as hooks to keep them in place.

Joe Volpe, an opposition Liberal member of Parliament and the vice chairman of a committee currently reviewing Toyota safety issues, said the earlier recall raised questions about the handling of issues related to unwanted acceleration by Toyotas.

FULL story at lik.

2. I saw a story the other day about 2 trucks (?) that were recalled

I wish now I had posted it. It was not Toyota, but I THINK Ford trucks that quality control didn't catch before they got shipped and sold.

8. They said it too in 2009. I tore out the floor mats from my parent's cars last year.
