Lee County Sheriff’s deputies say Glenda Whitfield was pulling up to ACT III when her 2007 Toyota Camry reportedly accelerated on its own Tuesday morning and drove through the salon

A woman says her car accelerated on its own and drove into a Lee County hair salon. The car is one of the recalled Toyota Camrys.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies say Glenda Whitfield was pulling up to ACT III when her 2007 Toyota Camry reportedly accelerated on its own Tuesday morning and drove through the salon. Salon Owner Gail Moree tells FOX 31 News Whitfield was holding down the brake and the car accelerated anyway. Toyota recalled certain 2007 Camrys due to possible sticking accelerators.

Toyota of Albany Owner Alan Murphy says Whitfield brought her car into their office and they did the recall work - fixing the potential problem. Murphy says Toyota engineers will come to Albany in the next few days to examine the car’s computer.

9. OK, the woman was 64. That really isn't old in driving terms...

pilots of airliners used to be retired at 60...this may come a bit later now.

At 74, I renewed my license last year. Haven't driven since. Not because I can't, but because I am no longer comfortable driving. Could easily take a car coast to coast if I wanted to...have millions of miles of driving experience(all weather)plus a couple of years sportscar racing experience.

It was just time for me to limit my driving to emergencies. Have a very patient son who does my errands for me.

Always a lot of sniping comments about older drivers here at DU. Many seniors here can easily outdrive many of the younger drivers who make the comments. When we learned to drive, cars did not practically drive themselves(many features today actually take control of the car out of the operator's hands). Anyway, quit insulting seniors who are not senile or otherwise impaired...many of us are not.

15. Happily, this sort of accident is fairly easy to evaluate ex-post-facto.

If the accelerator pedal is smashed/crushed, you can
pretty safely assume that the druver's foot was on the
gas rather than the brake at the moment their body was
impelled forwards by the force of the crash.

And that's quite often the case in this sort of accident.
