Not fit to practice medicine

That's what my deceased father would say about any Dr. who claimed that they would quit practicing because of HCR (also all of the Repub. Congresspersons who are Drs.) Dad was a country doctor who later taught at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The first time I left home at 3 weeks of age was on a housecall with my dad (and mom) to a farm in Bluegrove, Texas.

Daddy was for Universal Health Insurance in 1948.

7. Your father sounds like he understood it

A physician should be in the medical field because he or she has a desire to heal. Money and prestige may attach to the doctor, but they should NEVER be the primary reasons to practice medicine.

Med School in the late 50s. He was a proponent for that philosophy in deciding on admissions.

4. He sounds like an uncle of mine.

He was a country doctor as well, up in the Mississippi Delta. When he died, they found a slew of bills that he never collected. He and my aunt still died relatively wealthy, though. Even if he didn't get paid, he still knew he was better off than his patients. He knew when enough was enough; I wish more people knew that today.

in stuff out of people's gardens and off the farm. I still have an antique lamp hw got from an antique store in Henrietta, Tx as payment.

Great! That's not a doctor I would want to hire anyway.

Weed out the docs who are just in it for the money.

That said, I don't think any doctors will quit because of HCR. What are they going to do? Work at Wal Mart?
