If they call it socialism, that makes Mitt Romney a socialist too. And as another thread pointed out, it's the kind of reform the conservative Heritage Foundation called for.

In every other way, I would consider those pretty profound slams on the kind of reform we got, but for the straightjacket it puts the GOP in, it's good.

1. They can attack it in just the way that they are doing
not that that way makes any sense whatsoever - but then after all, they are Republicans

2. This bill is so weak, that given the opportunity, Republicans can destroy HCR...
Let's see, allow insurance companies to drop coverage or not pay claims on preexisting conditions, remove the 85% limit on premiums, get rid of what little oversight there is in this bill. There are lots of ways they can fuck things over, too easily, if they ever get back in office.

5. Yup
Heck, democrats can mess around with it too. Remember it was democrats that "reformed" Glass Steagall. There's so much room in this thing to go backwards it isn't funny. I shudder to think what the GOP might decide we can be mandated to buy, or what fines they can come up with.

Establishing buying insurance as an obligation, without establishing health care as a right will do that don't ya know.

3. The difference with Romney, they will say, is it was the state that did it
and not a huge federal takeover and mandate to the states. Seriously, this has already come up. The other talking point is that program is already in financial trouble proving it didn't work.

That's an incentive for pretty much any one of them that wants to be president to call it socialism.

12. I doubt Mitt Romney will be the Republican Nominee...
...people with more sanity will have take back control in the next few years and figure a way to silence Beck and Rush for that to happen.

Even McCain is on the chopping block.

Lets face the reality, the war between the moderates and extremist in the GOP was won by the extremist. They need a few good beat downs in the next election or two for the Moderates to get back into power....and given this bill appeases the moderates, they won't be rolling it back.

13. Very easily. All they have to do is imitate the 2008 Obama campaign
Being against mandates and against benefits taxes were big winners for him. Dems won big in 2006 by campaigning against the Iraq war. Even the ones who supported it benefitted, so don't look for mere hypocrisy to stop the Repukes either.
