Wow, the repukes are suddenly looking weak for November, aren't they?

Just reading some article about how Repukes are pledging to not fund the passed health care bill should they retake the House. I say good, let the lines be clear. Give Americans a clear choice. Let them approve or disapprove of an administration that promised change, promised to help the middle class, promised to fix a broken and unfair (and in many cases deadly) health care system, and actually delivered (politically, at least).

The Republicans are dancing on landmines and they don't have a clue.


November is going to be a shock for some.

1. I'm still planning on working hard to make sure dems get elected or re-elected.

I may actually donate, especially to Barney Frank and my congressman, John Tierney.

2. I think the euphoria over Brown's win has been overshadowed

I think this has had a MUCH bigger impact. And certainly much more long-lasting.

3. They are sealing their political fate. They are turning into illogical

non leaders. Refusing to work with those in power just leaves room for others to take that job.

5. I heard on the radio this morning...

... that the Republican party promised every election to repeal Social Security, from 1936 until Ike in 1952 said Social Security is the law of the land and the GOP would support it. Notice, please, how poorly the Republicans fared over that time.

It looks to me like a willful detachment from reality. Quick history lesson: a whole lot of America's older folks lost their life savings when all the banks closed after the Wall Street collapse of 1929. These seniors got politically active and went to DC. When they got there they promised President Roosevelt that they would be able to vote as a group, and there was nothing more important to them than some kind of pension arrangement. FDR, no fool politically, looked at all these votes and Social Security was born. So all those righties who continue to blame FDR and the liberals for the social security program need to blame senior citizens. This is something well-organized citizens demanded and got.

The specifics are different in this landmark legislation but the bottom line is the same: campaigning on a promise to overturn the bill will not win elections anywhere the GOP wouldn't have already won, and might well cost them seats.

But I tell you what: let's not mention it, okay?

7. Poor comparison

We had WWII and the Korean War during those times, America doesn't often change leaders in time of war.

If the Rethugs are wrong, and campaigning on repeal will sink them, then there's little to worry about. If they are right, then they will claim a mandate to take us back to the Eisenhower era.

You're right about the senior citizens, and they're about to find out what half a trillion dollars cut from Medicare is going to look like, just as the baby boomers start to get their Medicare benefits. We'll see how that works out over the next ten years.

6. So far, their opposition to HCR

has worked out pretty well for them. I see very little reason for that to change. They have seven more months to sell the idea that this bill is bad news, long after the media buzz we're seeing this week has faded.

In that time, insurance companies will jack premiums up to the sky, based on the reason that since they cannot dump people like they used to, they need more money to pay for their care. It ain't coming out of CEO salaries and bonuses, that's for sure.

8. Mainstream america is not fond of racists and having reps spat on. The GOP is headed for a drubbing.

9. I just gave money to dems for the first time in ages.

They finally did something to merit it. I also feel my enthusiasm for volunteering returning :) Seeing dems finally pass some serious legislation and then the pubs non-serious reactionary behavior will re-energize the base.
