Can marijuana legalization win in California in November? |
|
The Tax, Regulate and Control Cannabis Act of 2010 has officially made the ballot.
Here's the link to the initiative: www.taxcannabis.org
A poll last year had support for legalization in California at 56%. That's good, but initiative experts get nervous if their measures poll less than 60% at the beginning.
Will California become the first state to legalize pot?

2. It bothers me that Humboldt growers are against this, but I think CA will still do the right thing. |

3. Humboldt is benefitting economically from prohibition. |
|
Growers will vote in their own self interest, I guess.

4. Right, that's why it bothers me. |

Greedy bastards.
If they are smart they will still be able to make a good living in a legal atmosphere.

5. Did Capone want to repeal Prohibition? |
|
I hate to compare pot farmers to a gangster, but the economic model is the same.

7. Exactly. legalized product would have lower price and thus profit margin. |

Legalization would result in higher volume so total revenue would increase (lower price + higher volume). Still major players would also come in who can compete on volume.
It makes sense that small growers would feel threatened. It would be a massive untapped market and major corporations would make a big play for it. Untapped markets don't appear very often. Anyone who thinks companies like Altria wouldn't try to leverage their brand power to see legalized marijuana are kidding themselves.
I hope CA can pass this. Support for legalization nationally is at an all time high. Most people though "think it is impossible"
A win in CA would shake up rest of the country that it easily COULD be legalized.

6. The medical marijuana initiative |
|
passed by a pretty big margin, so after a few years of seeing that the world as we know it did not come to an end, I think this initiative has a good chance to pass.
Whether it will hold up in court is another issue.

9. Are the idjits who vote for prop 8 marijuana consumers? Is the Mormon Church for the bill? |
|
I don't use marijuana. I never intend to use it. Don't want my kids to use it, at least while they're minors under my roof. It won't be used on my private property by anyone.
But I will vote for it's passage. Other people should be able to make their own decisions about it.
