President Obama had a slew of supporters gather Thursday to hear him tout the newly-signed health care law. During his speech at the University of Iowa field house, one of the things a lot of people were watching for was any disruptions from opposed onlookers.
One of those moments came when a young man complained about something that was not in the bill: the public option. Justin Feinstein, a 28-year-old graduate student at the University of Iowa, got the President's attention by shouting out the comment, "What about the public option?"
The President responded saying, "That's not in it." Obama explained how that public option did not survive and the two had an exchange of words before the President said, "There's no need to shout."
Afterward, TV6 spoke to the heckler exclusively. He said that because the public option was not included in the health reform law he felt it was necessary to speak for the millions of Americans it still leaves out. "Back in May 2007 when he came here he promised Universal health care. This is not universal health care. 15 million people will not be covered with this bill. If he pushed, he thought, he has the votes to pass it, it all comes back to him," said Feinstein.
Feinstein was not escorted out of the field house during the rest of the President's speech.
