More direct proof is here, the future Pope approved this guy going back to work, after molesting kids, and so then, this guy molested some more kids...great judgment.

MUNICH, Germany - The future Pope Benedict XVI was kept more closely apprised of a sexual abuse case in Germany than previous church statements have suggested, raising fresh questions about his handling of a scandal unfolding under his direct supervision before he rose to the top of the church’s hierarchy.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the future pope and archbishop in Munich at the time, was copied on a memo that informed him that a priest, whom he had approved sending to therapy in 1980 to overcome pedophilia, would be returned to pastoral work within days of beginning psychiatric treatment The priest was later convicted of molesting boys in another parish.

An initial statement on the matter issued earlier this month by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising placed full responsibility for the decision to allow the priest to resume his duties on Cardinal Ratzinger’s deputy, the Rev. Gerhard Gruber.

also from the story

"But the memo, whose existence was confirmed by two church officials, shows that the future pope not only led a meeting on Jan. 15, 1980, approving the transfer of the priest, but was also kept informed about the priest’s reassignment. "

What happened is so clear..the bishops who tried to get rid of this pedophilia, kept a record of their attempts to do so. These people tried to do something, and this asshole, overruled them. And let this pedophilia go back to work with kids...So the bishops kept the record as people often do, to show they tried. Perhaps they didn't try enough, but when this shit hit, the memo comes out again. (surprise to the Pope)

is worse than the guy who committed these awful acts. Perhaps the molester couldn't stop himself cause he was such a sick mother-fucker, well the Pope could have stopped him, and he didn't...So more were molested, and more lives destroyed.

4. The Pope had better be an atheist or hope in his heart there is no god.
I would not want to be him and have to face my maker on judgment day because I am sure there is a particularly hot place in hell reserved for him.

6. And news stories end with "..no discussion of the Pope resigning"
It's a big old boy's club, and at that level, it's all about keeping power, keeping the sheep in line, keeping the money flowing in. That jackass was quick enough to root out priests whose theology was "too liberal", but pedophilia had to be kept under wraps.

I grew up Catholic, most of my friends and all of my family have stayed Catholic, and I see some of the great projects they have been involved in. I see how the parish has rallied around my Dad when he has needed them.

But the Church itself - the hierarchy? Disgusting. But what exactly can anyone expect from an all-male, "celibate" group that relegates the laity to such a peripheral role?

I get why people stay Catholic - family, culture, their own parish and the good priests and nuns they have known over the years, and good for them, but I couldn't do it myself.
