Hemet Man Uses Boy, Cat Scam To Burglarize Homes
HEMET, Calif. (CBS) ―

A little boy has been knocking on doors in Hemet to ask for help finding his lost cat, but has really been creating a diversion while a man tries to burglarize the homes.

Hemet police today said the boy uses a lost cat story to lure people into their backyards, giving cover for the burglar to enter the home through the front door.

So far the team has targeted two homes this month, and both times the ploy was attempted in the evening hours.

In the first case, a home was burglarized, but at the second, a resident scared off the child by calling police.

The boy is about 9 years old, and the man is white and in his 20s, about 5 feet-5 inches tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a brown fishing hat and driving a black, full-sized, late model pickup truck.
