be allowed to draw out the process of passing the course for five years, and remain entitled to food, shelter, etc supplied by his or her parents, while spending those five years studying the course, repeatedly failing it with slightly higher failing marks each time, and eventually passing it at age seventeen?

Some participants on DU might be tempted to say "yes" on the grounds that someone who graduates from high school at age seventeen isn't unusually old for someone who is graduating from high school.

Of course, it's possible that a general principle might allow one to arrive at answers to questions other than the question that I asked at the beginning of this thread. 12. That exact same thing happened to me.

At age 12, I failed the analogy course.
At 13, I failed again, but I began to develop some understanding of irony.
At 14, I failed again, but learned a bit about cynicism.
At 15, I discovered a sense of humor. Analogy? Still not yet.
At 16, again failure, now I'm developing apathy.
At 17, success! Now I know analogy like leading a horse to water off a duck's back.

At age 48, I still struggle. Best I could find is this;

California law requires he stay in school, and he is not taking someones spot by doing so. But, he would be wasting his time since he would need to be a genius to have done what you say.
