Comic book artist ends life at suicide clinic after battle with MS

John Hicklenton, who lived in Brighton, East Sussex, died at the assisted suicide clinic on March 19 aged 42 following a 10-year battle with the disease.

He was renowned for his characteristically-grotesque figures in the cult British comic 2000 AD, including interpretations of famous characters Judge Dredd and Nemesis The Warlock.

He absolutely had that right, and he exercised it.

He had his affairs in order, and then he was done. I strongly believe that people have the right to do this, but oh how hard for his loved ones who will no longer have him near them.

Death is inevitable. How FORTUNATE are those who are able to maintain their OWN perception of dignity in yielding to it, as we all someday must. How much harder is it for loved ones to watch someone slowly deteriorate? What feel you about having someone "near?" What does that really mean?

I experienced a new nearness with her upon her death. Somehow we're together in the "now." It's quite reassuring and consoling. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this.
