IMO, the Democratic Party, for the most part, sucks. They passed a bill that is a start and they may or may never be able to improve it. But is there any doubt in your mind that a Republican majority would do everything possible to hack away at this bill and take us back to the dark ages?

You've got seven months to let go of your anger, show up at the polls, and keep the barbarians out of power. Try to start cooling down now. Sit out the election, and you are giving aid and comfort to those who hate us, and want to take away whatever little we have left.

...although, in truth, I live in Humboldt County where the pot culture is strong, and might be completely misjudging the mood in the south and the interior. But my sense is that Proposition 215 really paved the way for changing attitudes among Californians, and lots of people who might have thought legalization not so good an idea have seen that the sky didn't fall, crime didn't become ubiquitous, and school children didn't turn into zombie stoners overnight.

I will go and cast my vote for Reid who is not the most exciting candidate but who did, AFICS, try very hard to get a PO into the Senate bill and who did express some pissed offness at the administration for ordering him to blow Lieberman. However, my vote will not be likely to keep him in his seat. I believe it's in the realm of possibilities he could still win this election but the chance is very small. Otherwise, I have a Republican House rep who is guaranteed to win back his seat regardless of the fact that I will vote for any Dem opposing him or will vote 'none of the above' if he is unopposed.

I'm sure our current Republican governor will lose his primary race which, of course, I don't get a vote in. I will be voting for Reid's son who is the Democratic candidate who will be opposing whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be.
