The president of the Shasta County-Redding branch of the NAACP was outraged Thursday by comments made on air by a KQMS radio talk show personality, saying his statements were "in-your-face racist."
"I thank God our children don't listen to Ray Roberts in the morning," said Patricia Sansom, head of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Roberts, who denied that his comments were racist, said Thursday that he was not speaking about President Barack Obama when he complained on air about what he perceived as a degradation of respect for the Oval Office.
"Ronald Reagan wouldn't go into the Oval Office without wearing a coat and tie," he said during his morning talk show. "Now we have people going in there and eating fried chicken and throwing the bones over their shoulder."
