The Catholic Church is a Criminal Enterprise
http://trueslant.com/matttaibbi/2010/03/27/the-catholic-church-is-a-criminal-enterprise/

The Holy See’s reaction to both stories has been swift. An unsigned editorial this week in the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano attacked the New York Times by name, accusing the paper of willfully ignoring the “truth” of Ratzinger/Benedict’s record and of attempting “to instrumentalize, without any foundation in fact, horrible episodes and sorrowful events uncovered in some cases from decades ago.” The media, it continued, showed a “despicable intent of attacking, at whatever cost, Benedict XVI and his closest collaborators.”

Earlier in the week, New York’s archbishop, Timothy Dolan, used his blog to dismiss the New York Times reports and defend the pontiff’s record by arguing that authorities outside the church also are culpable. Stories about sexual abuse by priests were “fair” if “unending,” he wrote. But he condemned the media for portraying child sexual abuse “as a tragedy unique to the church alone. That, of course, is malarkey.”

well since this article may well arouse quite a furor among the "faithful".

Can you spell "auto de fe"?

2. Most religions, organized or otherwise are.
If they don't seem to be, then you need to dig deeper.

9. A two thousand year old story isn't really news.
New would be if they were finally exposed and punished for their 2000 years of crime.

12. Unfortunately, the statute of limitations has run out on a lot of those crimes.
That's too bad--I wish it hadn't run out on the Inquisition or the Burning Times.

18. Jesus doesn't have a "statute of limitations" but I sure wish he'd just strike these
f'ers down already instead of making more people suffer.

13. "...and they have perfected being a criminal enterprise." Flocks of robotic
sheep handing over money and a huge monopolistic corporation over their minds, and as you say, the oldest multinational corporation... with their own city. What an enterprise. ...makes overly greedy capitalists look like beginners.

16. Why does this sound familar?
Oh yea, I hear the same complaints from conservatives all the time. "The media is biased against us - wah, wah!".

Fuck you RCC - if I had my way, there would be thousands of prosecutions in the US for your cover-up of the pedophilia in your own ranks. The best thing to do now would be to shut the fuck up with all the "poor me" articles. Being the largest (and richest) religious organization in the world makes moot your claims of persecution.

23. Obviously THAT BELIEF is only to be cultivated
in their supplicants. The "celibate" priest class has already been forgiven. Kind like the C-street gang.
I see the celibacy thing as serving the primary function of preserving property and inheritance rights for the church.

The prohibition also creates this pseudo holier-than-thou class who are ABOVE inherently flawed humans. :puke:

20. Impeach this Crappy Pope!!!!!!
When the scandal was first busted in America, before this pope, the Vatican blamed "the Jewish Press."
No doubt it was ol' Ratzinger and his cronies that floated that rumor.
