But, Axelrod added: "I would rather there were not events around which to send out missives like that."
Republicans and Democrats have sparred viciously this week, blaming each other for the noticeable uptick in threats against lawmakers and their staffs.
But GOPers charge that Democrats have gone too far by included mention of those threats in their latest campaign e-mails. Two such messages -- one sent by the Democratic National Committee, another by Organizing for America, the president's campaign arm -- earned the direct scorn of House GOP Leader Eric Cantor (D-Va.), who said they were in fact stoking discontent.

On one hand, he said it was Republicans, in fact, who were using the most incendiary rhetoric to describe the passage of healthcare reform, adding it Republican strategists later refused to sign a 'civility' agreement with their Democratic counterparts.
