8. When did they start asking the question?

If they started asking it once the Patriot Act was passed, the results would be interesting. If its, say, since Jan 2009, then it's a push poll.

On edit: turn out this question has quite a history:

In 1995 Gallup pollsters found that 39 percent of Americans said that "the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens." Pollsters couldn't believe it, so they tried again, taking out the word "immediate." This time 52 percent of Americans agreed.

Even more interesting, results from 1995 to 2003. May 2001 52% said yes, it's an immediate threat. Sept 2003, that dropped to 39%. However, in 2003 some people were asked the question with "has become so large and powerful" dropped from the question, and the result dropped from 39% to 30%. The question makes a significant difference.
