Just want to recommend this to anyone that hasn't seen it; I just caught it on the CBC last night. Although most of the information may be old, its put together incredibly well and is a very compelling documentary about the food industry (as well as the politics surrounding it). I honestly found that its one of the best documentaries Ive seen, just by how thought provoking it is in a plethora of different areas.

It takes a solid shot at discussing labor practices, the monopolization and consolidation of the industries, health effects, government subsidies, environmental consequences, patents & contracts used to dominate small farmers, greener alternatives, treatment of animals, etc. Basically, it does it all in a great way, discussing issues that should be relevant to people who post here.

The thing is, this film really points out how much politics is involved in this mess and how real progress can only be obtained politically. This is should be as important for people on a national basis as any other in my opinion, and may have a good deal to do with why health costs are so high and people are so unhealthy.

Its definitely something to check out.

1. An outstanding movie... also watch King Corn

both are very eye opening. I've always been more inclined towards natural and organic, but these two flicks sold me on solely organic REAL food.

3. It's good but doesn't offer much specific in solutions aside from generic "buy organic".

It's eye opening, I didn't realize the degree to which current livestock are engineered beasts and how bad a stranglehold Monsanto has on things.

The yogurt guy is a corporate mogul just like anyone else now, hard for me to put much confidence in anything he says.

6. A couple things

Why are companies like Monsanto allowed to use the legal system to drive anything that threatens their existence out of work and into bankruptcy with legal fees?

Why are food inspections (and the funding of the agency) down to pitiful levels?

Why are food subsidies being used to massively fund the crops that can be sold under cost?

Why are these monopolies being allowed?

Why aren't politicians finding *specific* solutions to deal with those questions? Is it really up to a film maker?

I didn't think buying organic was the answer in that film. Rather, buy local from non-corporate farms (or at farmers market) is one thing people can do. But it also specifically said these were problems that can't be solved on the individual level (by merely voting with your wallet). These problems require policy changes.

Especially looking at how Orwellian the food industries' ad campaigns are, and how out of touch it is with reality.
