By changing the focus from harassing airline passengers--the security in place on 9/11 would have stopped the attack if the airline personnel at the check-in counters would have thought to themselves, "this man looks like a terrorist! Maybe I should not give him a boarding pass! Maybe I should call the cops instead!"--to inspecting inbound cargo, I will make TSA do what it's supposed to.

1. I think that's called profiling. |
|
It works in countries like Israel, but it's not too popular here at DU.

3. Actually Israel does not do profiling |
|
They have a system of watching BEHAVIORS, not ethnicities.

4. Which, by definition, is profiling. |
|
You're correct that Israel doesn't generally do racial profiling.

5. Racial profiling is not popular, nor should it be |
|
There is another kind of profiling, though...
"That person will hijack an airplane because he's an Arab" is racial profiling. Not cool.
"That person will hijack an airplane because he paid for a one-way ticket in cash and is getting on the plane with no luggage" is not racial profiling, and it's okay.

6. How long do you think it will take terrorist to figure out |
|
a) buy roundtrip ticket b) pack suitcase full of useless junk.
roundtrip ticket + cheap suitcase + cheap clothing & other items from Walmart = what $200, $300 more. Hell lets be generous and say $500.
If terrorist could spend $500 to double the likelihood of bringing down a jetliner me thinks that would be cheap insurance
