I thought it was interesting because, when W* tried to serve them hot dogs from the grill at the family compound, they went out for lunch.

1. I went there once in my Mookie Mets jersey and was treated like royalty! The manager
calls his son 'Mookie'.

5. Obama, Sarkozy forge a new bond: the half-smoke
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/03/obama-sarkozy-forge-a-new-bond.html?wprss=44

Iran, shmiran. The highlight of Tuesday's joint news conference with President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy was a bit of banter about the visiting leader's lunch.

"The fact that Nicolas went to Ben's Chili Bowl for lunch shows his discriminating palate," Obama told reporters in the East Room, referring to the U Street diner - one of Obama's favorites - where Sarkozy took his wife in the afternoon. "My understanding is he had a half-smoke. He was sampling the local wares. And we appreciate that very much."

Sarkozy, after introductory remarks on financial regulatory reform, Afghanistan, Iran sanctions and even the new U.S. health care overhaul, said that he had a "good friend in Washington who recommended that restaurant." And he joked that he had seen Obama's picture on the wall, adding that in all likelihood, "When you go back to that restaurant, you will see a photograph of the French president."

Clearly, he relished the experience. No word on whether the couple ate french fries.

8. I love a half smoke every now and then, but I feel for Sarkozy and Carla.
Europeans are...different. They have a very refined palate. I am hoping they consider the food at Ben's Chili Bowl as being some kind of variant on food that you would get in a rough port somewhere in Europe...well, it is the people's food, after all.

But their digestive systems might cause real distress tonight, wherever they are staying. I hope they brought some Immodium...
