Bill Donohue (yes, the anti-gay Catholic League guy): Al-qaeda treated better than the Pope
:wow:

This man is a piece of ...... work.

HYSTERIA MARKS POPE'S CRITICS
March 30, 2010

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the pope's critics:

Seldom have I seen such delirium over an innocent man, namely Pope Benedict XVI. Christopher Hitchens, the rabid atheist, wants to know why the European Union is allowing the pope to travel freely. Perhaps he wants the pope handcuffed at the Vatican and brought to the guillotine. Margery Eagan of the Boston Herald, another big fan of the Catholic Church, says, "The Pope should resign." One looks in vain for a single sentence that implicates his guilt in anything. Then we have the Washington Post indicting priests by painting all of them as child abusers in a cartoon. There are many other examples of this kind of hysteria.

As indicated in our New York Times op-ed page ad today, the pope is innocent. Indeed, he is being framed. No one has any evidence that he even knew of the case of Father Lawrence Murphy. Indeed, his office didn't find out until 1996 and then it did the right thing by summoning an investigation (it could have simply dropped an inquiry given that the statute of limitations had run out). No matter, the pope's harshest critics are blaming him for not defrocking a man whom he may never have heard of, and in any event was entitled to a presumption of innocence. Or was he? There are not just a few who would deny civil liberties protections to priests.

It is a sad day when al-Qaeda suspects are afforded more rights than priests. That this kind of intellectual thuggery should emanate from those who fancy themselves tolerant and fair-minded makes the sham all the more despicable.

1. There are priests at Gitmo?
Most terrorism suspects are treated to waterboarding and other fun stuff. Does he really want to go there?

2. The priests have secrecy.........
Lots of it, and a heirarchy willing to cover up their abuses of children and their fellow man. I've despised the priesthood since a childhood friend got pregnant at 13 ......by her local parish priest. He got away with it. She was sent to the nuns.

7. Have you ever seen that movie, "The Magdalene Sisters"?
I watched it at a friend's house and actually had to walk out of the room at several points.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magdalene_Sisters

Girls sent to Magdalene "Asylum" in Ireland were abused beyond comprehension.

<snip>
Former Magdalen inmate Mary-Jo McDonagh told Mullan that the reality of the Magdalene Asylums was much worse than depicted in the film.
<snip>
In 1964 Ireland, the timeframe of the film, 'fallen' women were considered sinners who needed to be redeemed. The film follows the stories of four young women - Margaret (raped by her cousin), Rose (unmarried mother), Bernadette (too beautiful and coquettish) and Crispina (mentally-handicapped single mother) - who are all forced by their families or caretakers into the Magdalene Asylum.

The film details the disastrous lives of the four girls whilst they are inmates of the laundries, portraying their harsh daily regimen, their squalid living conditions and the oppressive nature of the Catholic faith at the time.

Each woman suffers unspeakable cruelty and violence from the fictional Mother Superior, Sister Bridget, despite her appearance and outward demeanour. She is characterized as sadistic and almost inhuman at times, as conveyed through her merciless beating of Rose in full view of Bernadette, or when she mockingly laughs at Una as she hopelessly clutches at her fallen hair locks. It is never made explicit whether Sister Bridget needlessly behaves tyrannically or if she earnestly believes her actions necessary in the eyes of God (it could also be seen as internalised misogyny).

The film also criticises the hypocrisy and corruption within the staff of the laundries, but it also intimates at the natures of the relationship between church and state in post-colonial Ireland. Sister Bridget relishes the money the business receives and it is suggested that little of it is distributed appropriately. Those who liken themselves to Mary Magdalene, who deprived herself of all pleasures of the flesh, even food and drink, eat hearty breakfasts of buttered toast and bacon while the working women subsist on oatmeal. In one particularly humiliating scene, the women are forced to stand naked in a line after taking a communal shower. The nuns then hold a "contest" on who has the most pubic hair, biggest bottom, biggest breasts and more. The corruption of the resident priest is made very clear through his fornication with Crispina.

17. I tried to watch it.........
I don't think I've managed to sit through the whole thing. I have read the testimony of native children sent to boarding schools here, and I didn't do well with that, either.

I'm utterly tired of religion and the things it does to people's minds.

4. Could Donohue possibly be any more maudlin?
While his over-the-top histrionics may play well with the 'true believers,' his words help convince everyone else that the RCC is nostril-deep in denial. Preaching to a choir of 'true believers' looks to the rest of the world like batshit loonery.

Hunter says menus from Guantanamo a proof of good care

By Otto Kreisher and Toby Eckert
COPLEY NEWS SERVICE

June 14, 2005

WASHINGTON – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter is using menus to defend U.S. conduct at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility.

In a TV interview show Sunday and a Capitol news conference Monday, Hunter, R-El Cajon, brandished the menus for the Guantanamo detainees' meals as a partial rebuttal to allegations that suspected terrorists and anti-U.S. fighters there were being mistreated.

For nearly every question that reporters asked about aggressive interrogations and lack of judicial process involving the 500-plus detainees, Hunter's answers were "honey glazed chicken" or "lemon baked fish," served with whole-wheat pita, various vegetables and fruit.

"The inmates in Guantanamo have never eaten better, they've never been treated better and they've never been more comfortable in their lives. . . . And the idea that somehow we are torturing people in Guantanamo is absolutely not true, unless you consider having to eat chicken three times a week is torture," Hunter said at the news conference.

Hunter passed out copies of daily menus for the detainees and displayed two typical meals. He said the detainees are "fed better than thousands and thousands of our troops in the field."

8. A question for Mr. Donahue:
How many children have been raped, sodomoized, molested, physically/psychologically abused by al-Qaeda members - have been threatened by al-Qaeda with excommunication from their religion and their communities, along with eternal damnation - have been accused of their own complicity in open court for having, as children, sexually "lured or enticed" adult males into sexual perversion they otherwise would never have engaged in?"

Just wonderin', Mr. Donahue - have any stats on that?

10. Donohue is part of their cover
He is among those sent out to shout and slander others with the direct objective of taking attention away from ongoing RCC systemic criminality. His job is to shout about gays and Jews, as the church always has, to distract from the child rape. That is why he is there. That is why they attack various minorities with such venomous regularity throughout history. It is done with intention, Donohue is part of their disguise. He is complicit and corrupt as all of them. Defender of the indefensible. Beard for the worst criminals of all.

23. Donohue is a monster
he simply spews his venom and uses his religion as a shield to deflect any retaliatory criticism. He's no different than the Klan. He thinks his religion is a "hall pass" to hate. Boy I hope I'm there to watch when this guy is getting tormented for all of eternity! Well, I hope to at least be able to see it on closed circuit.
