Is Michael Steele trying to undermine the Racist Party?
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 01:42 PM by CLANG

A Republican lawmaker who asked to remain anonymous told The Hill that Steele's relationship with GOP leaders is "not good at all."

"Steele lacks a base of support. The donors, the activists will all drop him if they sense he might squander the electoral opportunity of the decade," the lawmaker said.

13. Few Republicans would actually openly admit their racism
The chances are good your friends are at least closet racists. There's not much sense in being in the Republican party if you aren't a racist as they clearly have a racist agenda. So even if your close friends aren't racists, they support racists, so I'm not sure how that makes them any better.

2. Come on now. It isn't the racist party. It's the party racists belong to. The difference is
subtle, I know, but Lincoln used to belong to it.

21. The democratic party certainly isn't what it used to be in the South and that's
why the repubs took the Dems place there. Well, hell, maybe they ARE the racist party.

8. Yes, it is very subtle.
And when Lincoln was a member, it was a little different that it is today, I think you'll agree.

10. I'm ambivalent about him. He was at one of Tavis Smiley's events
maybe a couple of years ago now? And he sounded like an entirely different person. He was smart and social and nothing like the nutty cartoon that he's been ever since. It's just weird.

I don't know what to think about him.

11. Tavis Smiley is not all the way in the corner of Democrats

So he just might like 'Lil Mikie. I'm just not sure where Tavis is coming from sometimes.

By the way, I'm African American and many of my friends wonder too.

14. I don't need Tavis Smiley to be a Democratic party loyalist.
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 02:20 PM by EFerrari
In fact, most of the sources I follow are not affiliated with any party at all. Just like with anyone else, I try to watch and decide for myself based on the facts as well as I can understand them. Smiley's differences with Obama are no secret, in any case, so they can be factored in to what he says and does.

Steele was one of about 20 participants -- iirc -- and he didn't get special attention except that he might have been the only Republican there.

It was probably at one of the "State of the Black Union" events but I'm so sorry, I don't remember which one. It was either 2007 or 2008. I tend to think 2007 because I don't remember any question of Obama being there.

16. You may not need him to be a loyal Democrat but many
in our/my African American community would like him to be ~ just my view.

12. I think he's negotiating a big exit package.
He's happy to continue this show as long as the RNC wants....I'm sure there's a 7 figure number on the table. And a threat to sue if he's dismissed.
