2 children shot to death; dad a suspect

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., March 31 (UPI) -- Two children were shot to death and their father was found with a self-inflicted wound at a Scottsdale, Ariz., home Wednesday, police said.

City police said the 39-year-old man called authorities about 8 a.m. to report he had shot one of his children, The Arizona Republic reported. The man was expected to recover from his wounds.

The names of the family members and the children's ages were not released, though Phoenix's KNXV-TV reported they were boys and a neighbor said they were thought to be 2 and 4.

The TV station said police investigating the slayings said the children's mother was not home at the time of the shootings and that neighbors said the couple were divorcing.

15. terminating parental rights does not relieve one of child support

payments. That doesn't happen until the child is 18 or 21 depending on the state, and whether or not the child goes to college.

There was a guy here who appealed to have his rights terminated because he had a DNA test that showed he was not the father. But the judge ruled against him and he still has to pay child support.

don't know what the underlying circumstances of that case are, but it generally happens to guys who don't respond to child support cases. Laws vary, but in Texas, if you haven't done anything about it within 4 years of the judgment, tough.

What this other person was claiming was that parents who terminate their parental rights still have to pay child support. Bull shit. If so, then there's a lot of adoptive parents who should be getting child support from their kid's bio parents. But in divorce or child custody cases, court don't *usually* terminate the non-custodial parent's rights unless there's a prospective step-parent in the picture willing to adopt. If it is done (& I've done 2 this way), it's done in cases of severe domestic violence.

In most states and in most family courts, even DNA proof the kids aren't his doesn't relieve him from child support. If the guy is married and his wife has any kids, they are caught in his trap, no matter who knocked her up.
