Here's how I responded:

"Sorry, but why should I volunteer MY hard-earned tax dollars to support GOVERNMENT-RUN fire prevention? My taxes are high enough, and besides...........that's SOCIALISM!!! Sorry, just kidding. I couldn't resist."

What's funny about this whole thing is that this guy lives in a very Christian Conservative small town, where they LOVE their firefighters but HATE Socialism (catch the irony there?) I just thought I'd point it out. They don't mind having their taxes raised to support the government-run fire department, but they're willing to commit acts of violence over anything that even vaguely RESEMBLES government-run health care.

2. Very few people are 100% against socialism

The only difference is how far people will accept socialism.

Most people see no problem with a public police or fire department, yet almost nobody would think the government taking over every single business was a good idea. What separates us is how far we are willing to let the government go.
