but ensure that big oil companies have steady revenue for a couple more years. Gas prices won't go down at all or if they do it will only be for a month if that. So yeah I'm not seeing any upside to this.

12. On some MSNBC show today

I don't remember which one, they said this was to help the BlueDogs since they put their necks out for the healthcare bill. The Progressives just rolled over after some whining so they don't get anything. The way I think they see it is the BlueDogs can go side with the GOP but the Progressives have no where to go (for now anyway). They might pull it through in November because the repukes are beyond scarey. Every move has political considerations regardless of it being wrong for the country. They get out there with pretty words and people, for now, aren't much questioning.

15. I doubt it. Everything is about money.

Why do you think this has been a Republican dream for so long? They don't do anything for altruistic reasons. It's always about who can profit. And Democrats are just stepping into the money pit now and liking it. And they appear to be better at it because there is no way a Republican could get away with this. Or with the health care bill that just passed.

I think a shift is happening. From the time the rightwing of the Democratic Party began to ascend, and 9/11 helped that along, the party has moved further and further to the right. There is a vacuum now, which needs to be filled. Most people support social programs and unions and don't really want the country to be at war. But neither of the two parties represent them anymore.

It wouldn't be the first time it happened that a party completely changes. The problem for the base is what to do about it. We can either work hard to remove the Blue Dogs and DLCers and drag the party back to at least left of center, or start a whole new party. I think for now, it's better to work within the party. But they do not represent the people who elected them right now no matter how many excuses we try to make for them.

I don't think he thought this through. While environmental organizations won't support Republicans I GUARANTEE you that they will be very weary and careful from here on with their support of Obama and they will organize together to support competitors within the party.

This is HUGE and a lot of people are going to see it that way.

having seen the effects of offshore drilling in California when I was a kid, I think it is a very foolish decision and one which can do irreparable harm to our environment and the fragile ecology will impact.
