pro-death activist roeder sentenced to life in prison
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 11:48 AM by unblock
without parole for 50 years.

i can believe there are nutjob killers out there, but i can't believe there are legions of right-wingers out there who believe that murdering is an acceptable path for losing at the ballot box.

roeder murdered a law-abiding american citizen in cold blood. the fact that roeder didn't care for some of his victim's perfectly legal actions does not IN ANY WAY justify murder. anyone who says it's ok to murder like this is tacitly saying it's also ok to themselves being killed for saying such idiotic nonsense -- after all, someone else might have a different opinion and a gun, and apparently that's all it takes to justify ending someone else's life.

on edit: suckered by a premature headline at www.kansascity.com -- sentencing still in progress....
on re-edit: more premature headlining: http://twitter.com/BreakingNews: "Correction: Sentence for abortion provider killer Scott Roeder not yet handed down; Reuters transmitted bulletin in error
3 minutes ago via BreakingNews Headquarters "

just be sure to call him a "PRO-DEATH ACTIVIST" if anyone uses "pro-life" or "anti-abortion" instead.

1. Uh, that's why he's going to die in the slammer
I think the court probably took his mental status (dumb, maybe some underlying mental illness) into account when they gave him life in prison instead of the death penalty.

Hey, that's fine with me. I've always been against the death penalty, even for murdering scum like Roeder.

13. Killing him would have made him a martyr--like the Taliban's soldiers.
I agree with throwing him in jail for life--although personally I would prefer he be kept in solitary for the duration of it. Let him go insane.

4. hmm, whoops, looks like kansascity.com jumped the gun
earlier today, the headline for this article read that he had been sentenced to life.

http://www.kansascity.com/2010/03/31/1848491/roeder-to-be-sentenced-thursday.html

looks like they corrected it, though.

anyway, my main point was that he should be called a pro-DEATH activist, not pro-life, not anti-abortion. PRO-DEATH.

6. Roeder's character witnesses haven't testified yet
I tuned in just to hear what these proDEATH activists have to say. I know a couple of them, they are very active here.

7. so far the character support i've heard has been that he's just a wonderful murderer
he pays his taxes, he's a law-abiding citizen (other than this teensy-weensy cold-blooded murder thing) and he doesn't steal or run red lights or jay-walk.

wonderful argument, that! i can just see defense lawyers from coast-to-coast arguing about how their clients, found guilty of rape, should be sentenced lightly because they never steal, and thieve's lawyers arguing for lighter sentences because their clients never rape.

sheesh!

9. He doesn't pay his child support
His wife finally spoke up when he was on trial. Said he hadn't paid child support in years. She wondered how he can claim to be pro life and ignore his responsibilities to his own child.

11. Just think. Maybe we don't like the way the republican congress
is acting. So that means we have the absolute right to just get a gun and shoot them. Same thing.
