TV.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/11/garden/11tv.html
<snip>
THERE are certain timeless truths about people who don’t own a television, chief among them that they love to tell you they don’t own a television.

These days, they are still out there, but they have rivals in the realm of zealotry: people who do watch television — sometimes plenty of it — but don’t own a cable box.

Those who belong to this crowd are only too happy to remind you that they can watch most of what you watch, but don’t pay $60 a month or more for the privilege. They will explain gleefully how they (legally, for the most part) circumvent the cable companies. And they are becoming more voluble, as cable bills rise and technology improves.

Whenever colleagues talk about what they watch on TV, he said, “I always tell them, ‘Yeah, well, you know, we don’t have to pay for any of that.’ ”

4. Clicker dot com is the "TV Guide" for internet TV
http://www.clicker.com/

You can't find every single thing that's on cable but you can find a tremendous amount of stuff that isn't on cable..

And hooking your TV to the computer is getting easier and easier, I have a $40 gadget that will let me hook almost any computer to almost any TV (even European ones) that I got from Ebay. Of course a great many TV's these days already come with a VGA connector that will let you hook them straight to a computer.

3. I haven't had cable or satellite for years. Most of my tv viewing is with free OTA local stations.
I have Netflix and so I get their thousands of streaming movies and tv episodes, as well as being able to watch online as well.

With cable tv it's like the Springstein song "57 Channels and Nothing's On" only now it's like 200 channels. I've got more than plenty enough to watch.

5. Me too.
And I can always find something that I really want to watch or interests me.
I have no plans to go back to Satellite or cable....too much garbage to wade through to find something worthy of my time.

6. I dropped $800+ a year cable for OTA antenna and Tivo 2 years ago.
Flawless HD picture, ability to record shows I like, and $0.00 a month.

The setup paid for itself in first year. Cable is just wealth redistribution. $800 a year = $8000 a decade.

Fuck seeing pyramids on Discovery channel but dropping cable I can go SEE THE PYRAMIDS! :)

A lot of non-network (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc) stuff is available online. I find internet far more useful for news & weather.
