GOP's new 527- Mike Duncan, Karl Rove & Ed Gillespie involved

Gearing Up For Midterms, GOP Heavyweights Raise $30M For New 527 Group
Justin Elliott | April 2, 2010, 1:30PM

Former RNC Chair Mike Duncan and former White House adviser Karl Rove

Some of the biggest names in the GOP are organizing an outside group to help Republicans win in the 2010 midterms -- and donors have already pledged a whopping $30 million for the new project, according to National Journal.

The new group -- which, as a 527, can collect unlimited soft money donations and won't be regulated by the Federal Election Commission -- is called American Crossroads. It's a name you'll likely hearing a lot, in part because, as the Wall Street Journal points out, the group's ambition to raise $52 million makes it "the largest ever planned by a pro-Republican outside campaign entity."

Those involved include Karl Rove and Republican consultant Ed Gillespie, who have reportedly been hitting up donors for American Crossroads. Its director is Mike Duncan, who preceded Michael Steele has chair of the Republican National Committee.

Steven Law, the general counsel of the Chamber of Commerce, will be the group's president, according to the Journal.

The creation of a powerful 527 has come at a politically propitious, but also difficult moment: some key GOP donors and strategists sense big opportunities this year to make sizable congressional gains, but also fret and privately complain that the RNC has been weakened financially under Steele's leadership.

With some big donors opting not to give to the RNC because of concerns about its current management, the need for a new fundraising vehicle to help congressional candidates this year has become a high priority for some GOP operatives. Gillespie is trying to "put something together with big dollars that can compete with labor and Soros," says a source, referring to the Democrat Party's billionaire angel George Soros. The RNC is "doing well with internet money but not with major donors," he ruefully added. But with the new 527 "there's a place for major donors to go if they're unhappy."

3. The largest voting base for the Repubs are the Tea People - I would like to see
Gillespie and Rove snuggle up to them - provide a good argument for stopping spitting.

4. So just how fucked is the RNC?
They have to turn to a shadow organization to try to do the work of Michale Steele and the rest of the stumble bums down at the HQ. Now, before we get all freaked out, lets remember these are the same oafs that drove the "1000 year party" into the ditch in the first place.

So we gots us some hillbilly tea baggers, some neo-con elephants, and this brain trust - lots of luck boys lots of luck...

Now, lets roll up our sleeves and get to work.

8. People Just Continuing To Throw Bad Money After Bad......
I know the saying is "Good Money After Bad" - but in the case of those that support these Repugs - the money they have is 'bad' - from the standpoint of how they get it - by robbing us blind.
