The History of Indulgences, How They Work and an Updated Version

During the Dark Ages, Indulgences were all the rage among Catholics. An Indulgence was a purchasing, from the Church, of forgiveness for a serious sin. This program actually led to the rise of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. Naturally, the Catholic Church has come a long way since then.

2. I really can't find too many issues that I agree with the Church on
Jesus spoke mainly about helping the poor and creating peace. yet, the church finds one sentence about homosexuality and that becomes a litmus test. Anti-Abortion, anti-gambling, anti-Birth Control. Those are the issues to which our elected officials have to adhere to have the backing of the Church.

Yet being for the poor, improving education, and supporting peace gets you no where.

Maybe they should read their own book.

3. That's what I like about ELCA - "God's work with our hands" - big emphasis
on helping the poor, empathy, and peace.

Not one word about homosexuality (since we ordain homosexual pastors and welcome homosexual members) and not one word about keeping women in "their place" (since we ordain women pastors - my sister is one in fact.)

Big big difference between ELCA and the Assembly of God or Southern Baptist churches. Big big big big difference. In fact those churches do not consider us to actually be Christian. Meh. Their opinion I guess.
